Biography

After graduating in film and animation in 1999, I embarked on a career in video camerawork. Through working on the long-running documentary series Wildlife SOS, I gained five years of invaluable shooting and directing skills, and developed the ability to shoot decisively under pressure. We were working with injured British wildlife on a daily basis, so a hands-on approach to working with animals was essential.

Animal Cops took my editorial skills further in both Philadelphia and Miami, where I had to direct a host of contributors in often hostile urban situations. Animals were once again centre-stage, but more focus was on the human element of each story.

In 2009 I began work on the ITV series Lion Country, which follows an experimental lion conservation programme in Zimbabwe and Zambia. We were walking out into the bush with captive-bred lions virtually every day, accompanying them to develop their hunting skills - skills that they can then pass on to their own truly wild cubs, raised in vast fenced release sites. The programme blends human-led actuality scenes with long-lens wildlife footage and time-lapse photography. The success of the first 6 episodes saw a further 12 commissioned, which kept me busy for most of 2010.

2011 has seen me work as wildlife cameraman in Namibia for the ITV series Animal Kingdom with vet and TV presenter Steve Leonard. I also self-directed stories for series 10 of Wildlife SOS on Animal Planet; and I spent some time back in Philadelphia filming an undercover cop show for National Geographic called Philly Undercover.

Travel/expedition documentaries

Between work on documentary series, I have filmed, edited and produced many expedition and adventure travel productions, mainly for charities. Highlights include 3 successful summits of Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), survival training in the rainforests of Costa Rica, setting up a 3-month diving expedition off the Miskito Coast of Nicaragua, several trekking events in Peru and Chile, and following a 60-strong group of cyclists across the dusty plains of Tanzania.
